Telcos Disapprove Governments Suggestion of Blocking Sims of Unvacciniated Citizens

Earlier this week the Punjab government had asked the Telecommunication companies in Pakistan to block the sims of those individuals who have not yet received the vaccine. However, this was met by disapproval from Telcos. They argued that the Punjab Government did not consult them before taking a step like this.

They also mentioned that the Punjab Government should exercise other measures to enforce the vaccination of citizens. Blocking or suspending their SIM cards is not a feasible option.

The meeting held earlier this week was proposed that unvaccinated citizens should have their SIM cards blocked and their access to malls blocked as well.

“Final decision has been taken to block the mobile SIM cards of people not getting vaccinated,” Punjab Specialised Healthcare Department spokesman Syed Hammad Raza said.

The meeting also called for the vaccine to be made mandatory for all citizens of Punjab.
