In a recent development, the Universal Service Fund (USF) along with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom (MoITT) has awarded Rs 300 million contracts to Jazz for providing high-speed broadband internet services to M3, M5 Motorways. Providing high-speed internet connectivity is part of the government’s mission to establish ‘Digital Pakistan’.

According to the Federal Minister for Communications, Murad Saeed the government is working tirelessly to facilitate the public and provide them with ease.
He also added,
“Government is also taking steps to ensure the provision of better internet connectivity particularly in merged areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, southern Balochistan, and Punjab”
He further explained that the use of M-tags has been made mandatory – using technological solutions would indeed ensure transparency. The Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Aminul Haque said that the M3 project along with the USF will be able to provide high speed mobile broadband access to 54.92 km that is passing through the districts of Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, and Khanewal.
“This will not only enable the commuters on the motorway to communicate but also facilitate the residents of adjoining districts and villages,” he added.
The Minister for IT and Telecommunication further explained that the M5 scheme will provide high-speed mobile broadband coverage to 78.85 km of an unserved road segment that passes through the districts of Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Kashmore, Ghotki, and Sukkur. Aminul Haque also added that the contracts for M3 and M5 projects at a cost of Rs140 million and Rs154 million have been allotted. The entire project would take around 12 months. He mentioned that through USF’s Motorways and National Highways program, broadband coverage had been extended to road segments stretching over 1,929 kilometers.
