Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has recently released a statement saying that according to the timelines given for the Spectrum Auction for Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) the bid offers were received and sealed by 9 September 2021. Ufone was the only company to have submitted a bid and has been declared as the winner of the auction.

PTA also added,
“This will generate the revenue of USD 279 million (excluding advance tax). The government will receive 50 percent upfront payment of PKR 23.44 billion within 15 days; out of which 20 percent of the said amount which amounts to PKR 9.38 billion has already been received on 9 September. The remaining 50 percent will be paid in five equal annual installments.”
The total spectrum won by Ufone is 9 MHz in the 1800 MHz band. This comprises 70.3% of the spectrum that was offered in the auction. Ufone’s spectrum holding will increase from 6 MHz to 15 MHz in the 1800 MHz band after this addition. This will further improve the quality and coverage for voice and data services.
“PTA completed the auction process with the assistance of an internationally reputed consultant, Frontier Economics who has been on board since January 2021, and conducted thorough consultation with cellular industry and other stakeholders.”
Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has issued a Policy Directive to complete the process.
