Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) could merge with Qatar Airways as part of a unique investment package that Qatar is set to offer Pakistan. The whole investment package might total $5 billion.
After PIA becomes a part of Qatar Airways, knowledgeable sources in the ministry of finance informed that Pakistan and Qatar would sign a deal on the airports in Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad.
According to the sources, technical discussions about the areas of agreement have been ongoing since September 4, 2022. On-board services, flight fleets, and airport services are the topics up for consideration. Additionally, the arrangement will not cover tickets, airport upkeep, flight management, or terminal leasing.
The sources added that the new agreement will include investments in the Pakistan Stock Exchange. Additionally, the agreement will include a contract for the direct delivery of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Additionally, Qatar intends to postpone some of the LNG payments.
In this regard, Pakistan is receiving advice from foreign organisations. The World Bank and the International Finance Corporation will be invited to send specialists to help in the package’s preparation.
