The famous American multinational food, snack, and beverage corporation; PepsiCo, has released a statement recently that they plan to become “Net Water Positive” by the year 2030. The company has pledged to replenish more than 100% of the water that the company uses making it the most efficient food and water beverage manufacturer.
Moreover, the company is also launching a million-dollar program with its long-term partner – WaterAid. The purpose of this project is to provide a safe supply of water to families in sub-Saharan Africa. The initiative is an add-on to the safe water access project which has expanded over the past 15 years and has helped more than 59 million people residing in 20 countries.
The chief sustainability officer at PepsiCo, Jim Andrew, said in a statement,
“Time is running out for the world to act on water. Water is not only a critical component of our food system, it is a fundamental human right — and the lack of safe, clean water around the world is one of the most pressing issues facing our global community today”
He also added that the depleting water resources are an indication of the climate crisis. The ‘net water positive’ effort will help play a significant role to provide safe water to water replenished regions. Through this initiative, PepsiCo claims to provide safe water to 100 million people by 2030.
