Shamsul Arfeen Hashmi, a 26-year-old Pakistani visual artist, has had one of his pieces chosen for the 16th Arte Laguna Prize, which will take place in Venice, Italy, in 2023.
International visual artist Shamsul Arfeen, who is based in Lahore, graduated from the National College of Arts Lahore in 2019 with a concentration in painting.
His work displayed both domestically and abroad in galleries such as Canvas Gallery Karachi, Ejaz Art Gallery, O Art Space Lahore, and Return on Art Gallery (Austria, Vienna).
Arfeen is also active as playback and classical vocalist with training in classical music. He got the NCA Theatre Society’s Best Actor Award in 2019 and just joined the renowned Pakistani Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for more classical music instruction.
In the COLAB’S Lahore artist residency, he has also experimented with his artistic practice. Arfeen’s artwork is on show among pieces by well-known artists like Damien Hirst, Sadequain, Imran Qureshi, and Ismail Gulgee.
