In a recent venture, the largest power utility company in Pakistan, K-Electric has launched K-Solar. The renewable energy company that comes under K-Electric is a great initiative that will help Pakistan transition towards the development of energy projects that are clean and green. The announcement was made during a webinar in which K-Electrics Chief Strategy Officer, Naz Khan, said:
“K-Electric has stepped into the renewable energy space with the launch of its first-ever subsidiary. By launching K-Solar, the company has taken another step to a greener and more sustainable future for our future generations.”
She further added:
“Currently renewables have around 250MW of share in KE’s total energy mix including almost 150MW from wind and 100MW from solar energy. Additional projects are in the pipeline to increase the share of renewables to 350MW”
The CEO of K-Electric Limited (KE), Moonis Abdullah Alvi added to the event saying that Pakistan has been making efforts to add renewables into their mix. Moreover, adding K-Solar is only one of the many milestones that are to be achieved in the near future.
Whats Next?
It was also discussed in the webinar that the K-Solar teams will be conducting site surveys. These will help the K-Solar team understand the energy needs of the residential customers so that they may recommend the best solar solutions for them. K-Solar will also be providing services to the commercial sector inclusive of banks, retail outlets, educational institutions, healthcare organizations, etc.
Additionally, it has been planned under the same initiative that the industrial sector will be exclusively run by solar energy. This is going to be a great development in terms of saving money and help to generated uninterrupted power.
It is worth mentioning that K-Electric is the first Pakistani company to receive the best project award in the category of ‘Corporate Solar Sustainability Program of the Year’ at the Middle East Solar Industry Association’s (MESIA) Solar Awards 2018.
