Facebook and Nayatel have recently collaborated in a joint venture to improve fiber connectivity in Pakistan. The partnership was announced to make the broadband connection more affordable, reliable, and improve the speed during the coronavirus pandemic. Nayatel is all set to deploy its fiber networks for 10 to 15 million people across eight cities in Pakistan. These networks will provide a backbone to 4G and 5G mobile networks and fixed broadband networks.
The partnership will allow Nayatel to own, build, and maintain these fiber networks. Moreover, they will function as providers to mobile operators, and Internet Service Providers. Facebook will sponsor the investment and network planning procedures. It is estimated that by 2022 the fiber will be able to boost connectivity, and network capacity. The project will also help to drastically improve geographical reach as well.
Investment Opportunities
This one of its kind initiative for Nayatel and Facebook will possibly attract more investment opportunities in the country. Moreover, it will also enhance connectivity.
“We’re proud to partner with Nayatel as part of our efforts to bring fast and reliable internet connectivity to people around the world, including in Pakistan,” said Tom Varghese, Head of Connectivity and Access Policy, Asia Pacific, Facebook. “We look forward to working with Nayatel to enable more open-access fiber infrastructure and note that a progressive and collaborative regulatory environment will help to attract further investments to improve internet connectivity in Pakistan.”
The CEO of Nayatel spoke above the partnership too in his recent statement:
“We’re excited for this first-ever partnership of a Pakistani company with Facebook to expand fiber broadband to bring high-speed internet to millions of customers” – Wahaj us Siraj
He further added that the collaboration will help enhance the government’s vision of “Digital Pakistan”. The partnership is a great boost for the country as it is the first time that Pakistan has landed an agreement with a global brand like Facebook.
