In a bid to encourage road safety Careem has joined hands with Sindh Police and Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Islamabad to carry out an annual initiative in which they would be distributing helmets to motorcycle users. This year the activity took place in Karachi and Islamabad. The activity is expected to expand to other cities in the next phase of development.

According to research carried out by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, there have been 96701 accidents reported in the year 2019-2020 which has unfortunately resulted in 5436 deaths and 12317 injuries. Almost half of the accidents reported were of motorcyclists and the loss could have been minimized with the use of helmets.
Zeeshan Baig, Country General Manager, Careem Pakistan, commented on the event saying,
“Safety always comes first, be it of our Customers, Captains, or Colleagues. Since lives are precious, we should do all in our power to not lose them due to negligence.” He further added: “We are extremely happy to partner with the authorities to raise awareness regarding the matter and play our part in ensuring that all necessary steps are taken.”
The event was led by several senior officials from Sindh Police, Careem, and Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Islamabad including Deputy Director and Deputy Head of Security, DHA, Senior Superintendent of Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sub-Inspector and the Traffic Safety Awareness Team.
Muhammad Amjad, Deputy Director and Deputy Head of Security, DHA also spoke at the event,
“We are thankful to Careem Pakistan for not just distributing helmets to motorists but also for emphasizing the significance of road safety and raising awareness about the importance of wearing helmets while riding.”
According to the Motor Vehicle Ordinance of 1965 motorcyclist and the passenger, both are required to wear a helmet. However, this is not implemented by the majority of motorcyclists. Obedience to traffic rules could drastically reduce traffic accidents.
