One of the greatest Pakistani Nuclear scientists, Dr. Qadeer Khan, was laid to rest on Sunday 9th October 2021 after he passed away from Covid-related complications at the age of 85. The National Icon was given a state funeral at the Faisal Mosque before he was buried at the H-8 graveyard in the capital city as per his will. As reported by sources Dr. AQ Khan’s health deteriorated early morning and he was transferred to the hospital due to lung-related issues.
Under the direction of the Prime Minister, Imran Khan, and in recognition of his efforts the Nuclear Scientist was given a state funeral which was attended by cabinet members, parliamentarians, and military officers. Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed spoke to the media and said that the PM has asked all cabinet ministers, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, and the services chiefs to be present at the ceremony.
“The whole nation is grieving,” the minister added.
He also added that the flag was to flown at half-mast and adequate security was made on the day of the burial.
The Prime Minister stated that Dr. AQ Khan was loved by the nation due to his massive contribution to making Pakistan a nuclear weapon state.
“This has provided us security against an aggressive much larger nuclear neighbor. For the people of Pakistan, he was a national icon,”
he added saying that the “Father of the atom bomb” would be buried in the Faisal Mosque as per his will.
Dr. Arif also spoke in this regard saying that he had personally known Dr. AQ Khan since 1982,
“He helped us develop nation-saving nuclear deterrence, and a grateful nation will never forget his services in this regard.”
